A blood sugar test is a common way of monitoring what your levels of glucose, or sugar, are.
There are three types of blood sugar test:
1) fasting blood sugar testing or postprandial testing
2) random blood sugar testing
3) hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c).
The fasting blood sugar level is the amount of glucose in the bloodstream after an eight-hour period without food. The postprandial (or 2-hour) level is the amount of glucose in the bloodstream two hours after eating. HbA1c measures how much glucose has been in your system over the course of a period of time, typically around three months.

The discovery of sugar in urine was an important discovery. This discovery marked the start of the scientific study of diabetes. In about 1889 or 1890, a British physician named John Rollo discovered sugar in the urine samples of his patients with diabetes mellitus (Type 1 Diabetes) and mistakenly came to believe that could be a sign of diabetes.
In 1891, German doctors demonstrated that injecting glucose into someone having a diabetic reaction such as coma, would restore them to consciousness. They had discovered insulin which they subsequently used clinically to cure patients with Type 1 Diabetes.

The discovery of blood sugar is one of the most significant breakthroughs in medicine in the 20th century.
The discovery of blood sugar was made by Danish scientist Karl A. Langer in the late 1920s, and published in a German paper on April 15, 1927.
